John Lavallee

Operations Manager, S.T.A.T.E Testing, LLC

John has over 25 years’ experience in the construction materials engineering field with an emphasis on hot mix asphalt design and construction. He worked for an Illinois Heavy Highway contractor for 19 years overseeing quality operations for 5 asphalt plants. His job title was Quality control supervisor and he was involved in the production and placement of over one million tons of hot mix asphalt per year.

John has been employed by S.T.A.T.E. Testing since 2014. He oversaw a successful trial in 2016 where 3 different GTR technologies were placed on the Reagan Memorial Tollway. These 3 technologies were plant added engineered crumb rubber, terminally blended GTR, and a terminally blended SBS/GTR hybrid. The results of the trial proved that each of the three technologies had merit and each could supplement “neat” asphalt and replace the need for SBS polymer in Tollway asphalt mixtures. John has been involved in the design, production, and placement of hundreds of thousands of tons of warm mix asphalt containing ground tire rubber while working for S.T.A.T.E. Testings’ client, the Illinois State Toll Highway Authority.

John graduated from Southern Illinois University with a BS in Civil Engineering and is a Licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Illinois. John enjoys just about any sport that involves water, he is an avid sailor and spends most of his time when not working on Lake Michigan.
