Monica Sowders
Monica Sowders, Western Regional Director for Geocycle, a processor and provider of alternative fuels for the cement industry, has 20 years of experience in creating value and sustainable programs from waste and byproducts. She currently oversees the processing and beneficial use of over 50,000 tons of waste tires annually as part of a diversified alternative fuels program. Exposed to the waste tire industry through a TDEC sponsored grant and reuse program in 1995, she became hooked on finding a better home for waste tires and continues to look for innovative new uses today. She has managed tire collection, processing and reuse operations in Colorado, Oklahoma, California, Utah, Texas, Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Tennessee, Alabama, and Georgia and participated actively in regulatory stakeholder development team in several states. She has worked in the alternative fuels,composting, quarry, and utility industries and holds degrees in Physics, Geology, Civil Engineering (Univ, of Tennessee) and an MBA.
